2022 The Year of Aesthetics №40 2022–09–10

Musica Series : Left from Artist’s personal collection, Right private collection

This series is an experimentation on a geometric swirl that reminds me of Picasso balance on his canvases. These also include my fascination with experiments in cross hatching or my experimentation of filling spaces, I like these non-traditional wire frame and abstract geometry inside the fills. This series is an expression of a space like the ideas of musical space. I am exploring the abstraction of mapping, dissidence, edge effects and lack there of randomness vs balance.

I have liked the Picasso use of canvas and boundary and expansion across the canvas. These are more accidentally use his geometry. This is maybe a simply seeing all of his work that I can. I had a week where I could spend a long time with one of his etching. So he was on my mind a bit when this series started.

I have painted what I call Geometrics for several years. I love to work in black in white with high contrast I am a pen and paper junkie, and working with serval pens and the best paper allows one to experiment with different abstract forms quickly. There is a tradition of cross hatching, but I like aspects of wire frames and topological mapping. I love randomness as a aspect of art and how hard it as a human to capture a random aspect in art as humans we are endured to order, so achieving abstraction randomness but having balance is a challenge.

The cross hatching experiments help take things in new directions, I see strong traditions that are an influence and you should know them but also not limit yourself to them.
