The Tragedy Project…
Letters 2024
I am about to embark on a reading the Greek Tragedy with my friends Matios and Sebastian. It is my second time to have a complete reading. In my estimation this is the high point of drama, and it is as important to the development of Theater and Opera as Plato was to Philosophy. The tragedy is written by the three greatest play writes (again in my estimation) they gave us innovations such as dialog, three part action, deus ex machina, the reveal, exposition, chorus and the trilogy.
My goal is to a fair reader and discuss this online and maybe write a bit about the plays as I read them. I have set up a twitter DM space if you want to be invited. We will use the Mary Lefkowitz and James Romm edited Greek Plays. We will take a gentle pace so if you want to join in let me know. We will take the plays in order of this edition and pick up the other plays from other editions once we get past these 16.
First Play we will discuss is the Persians by Aeschylus .
